GARETH'S CATATONIA PAGE

Hi my names Gareth Fullarton and I live in Clarkston, Glasgow. I go to Williamwood High School (Hello Mrs Robinson) and my birthday is on the glorious 12th July. As you can probably guess, Catatonia are my favourite band so read on and find out more...

Catatonia are Welsh and great! Their lead singer is Cerys (Ke-riss) Matthews, the woman (obviously) and their hits include Mulder and Scully (Number 3), Road Rage (Number 5) and Dead From the Waist Down (Number 7). They have released three albums; 'Way Beyond Blue' the brilliant debut, 'International Velvet' the stunning follow up album and 'Equally Cursed and Blessed', their fantastic third album. They formed in 1993, but didn't make an album until 1996 when they signed on to the Blanco y negro record label. This album didn't get noticed until recently, however, which is a shame. Aaaaaaw. Their big break came in 1998 with the release of 'International Velvet' and their second single from that album, 'Mulder and Scully' fuelled their sudden fame. Road Rage was another huge hit and the fourth single, 'Strange Glue' was also popular. The first and fifth singles, 'I am the Mob' and 'Game On' only made brief, low entries in the charts, probably due to little publicity because both are excellent songs. On the 29th March 1999, Catatonia were back with the release of the first single from their forthcoming album, 'Equally Cursed and Blessed'. The single was 'Dead From the Waist Down' a fab song with a great "Wizard of Oz" style video. On the 12th April, the new album was finally released and went straight to number one in the album chart. It also sparked the re-entries of 'International Velvet' and 'Way Beyond Blue' in the top 40 albums. On the 12th July Catatonia released their second single from "Equally Cursed and Blessed", "Londinium", but surprisingly (as it is one of the best songs on the album) it only entered the charts at number 20. Come October, however, you can bet Catatonia will be back at the top end of the charts with the release of "Karaoke Queen", my favourite song on the album. It is a return to their roots (sort of) because of its lovely and fun tune.
